Since 2022, when I began providing artistic guidance at Platô, I've mentored a variety of people on very different and intriguing projects. I've already mentored about 20 people, varying in length, but all driven by a desire to break new ground. I emphasize that, in many cases, what was at stake was a kind of authorization to create that the mentored artist herself seemed to have eluded. When we reached this point, the creative process continued with great beauty and intensity.

Artistic guidance
What are the guidance?
With artistic guidance, Diogo Liberano is dedicated to guiding an artist in an artistic project of hers that is at any stage of creation. The type of expression doesn't matter, but only the quality of the meetings and conversations, the joy of the exchanges and propositions.
The work of guidance consists of following the creative process, trusting that it is the process itself that will tell us what a particular artistic creation will be. It's important to spend time with the intricacies of creation: whether it's writing an academic text, a play or poem, a script or novel, a performance or theatre scene, etc.
It is up to the supervisor not only to comment on the creation in progress, but to offer counterpoints to the creative artist, to propose readings and exercises that stimulate the joy of the creative process and the creation to come. In this sense, mentoring is considered artistic because it promotes an enriching dialogue that encourages critical reflection, stimulates experimentation and allows the artist to develop her own voice and vision, as well as respecting and valuing the uniqueness of each creative process.
How does it work?
A Zoom meeting is scheduled with Liberano. At this meeting, a conversation is held to present the project to be mentored and the interests of its creator. In dialogue, the mentor will express their intuitions about what could be developed in terms of creation, research and guidance.
At this initial meeting, the amount to be paid by the artist to the supervisor will be defined, as well as a timetable for the start and development of the work.
Orientation meetings are held via Zoom.
